A paper for the dry half of the map
Evaporative Cooling is a long-form journal about a technology Australians have lived with for decades and still argue about every November. The domain is old. The brief is simple: write as if the reader already owns a rooftop unit, a water meter and a summer that does not negotiate.
We are not a retailer, installer or comparison engine. We do not take inventory, we do not rank brands for a fee, and we do not pretend a portable cooler will save a sealed brick veneer on a humid coast. The work is editorial: reported explainers, climate essays and maintenance writing that would still make sense if you printed it and left it on a workshop bench.
The voice is Australian English because the problem is Australian. Humidity in Cairns is not humidity in Kalgoorlie. Water prices in Perth are not water prices in Launceston. A bleed-off hose that quietly waters the back lawn in Kalgoorlie is a different political object from the same hose in a Melbourne terrace.
What we publish
The journal is organised into six hubs: how it works, systems, climate, care, costs and health. Each essay is written to stand alone and to send the reader onward through real links, not a maze of buttons.

Guest essays are welcome when they meet the write for us guidelines. Commercial URLs in those pieces carry rel="sponsored". Corrections run in the article they belong to. The editorial standards page is the house rulebook; the image credits page lists every photograph we host.
